Carlos Matias

copywriter/writer-writer

Carlos’ first memory of writing compelling copy was passing a poem to his elementary school crush asking if she wanted to grab pizza after class. That’s when he fell in love with writing—and rejection.

Since then, he’s helped burger brands clap back on social media, made his Canadian coffee clients “feel cool,” landed a short story in The New York Times, and authored an award-winning children’s book (which earned him an Ezra Jack Keats Honor) that you can check out—and hopefully buy—here. In his free time, Carlos writes about the food of his mother’s country for sites like Bon Appétit—much to the pride of his 60 cousins.

Things people have said about my writing:

“Carlos reminds me of advertising legend Bill Bernbach—mostly because they both lived in the Bronx. His writing, though, not so much.” — Former Creative Director

“We’ve decided to forward all of his pitches to spam.” — McSweeney’s Editor

“One of the most import writers of this generation” — My mom
